What is HSRP?

A high security registration plateis comprised of aluminum and is secured to the vehicle with two non-reusable locks. The principal reason behind this requirement is that older number plates are easy to modify and could be removed or replaced easily.

The car that was stolen is always found having a new registration plate which makes it difficult for the authorities to track it down, but the HSRPs are equipped with the snap-on lock, which is not removable and are quite difficult to replace.

The HSRPs are also useful because the most important details about a car like the engine's number and chassis number are recorded in a central database. The stored data along with the 10-digit PIN is essential to trace a stolen car.

How much does HSRP cost?

The government of the central government has not fixed the price of HSRP so the price can vary from state to state. On average, HSRP costs around $400 for two-wheelers. The cost can be as high as 1100 rupees for four-wheelers based on the category. The stickers with a colour code can be installed for just Rs 100 for cars with an HSRP.
